Wey Valley Chess - Surrey

Wey Valley Chess organises chess for children of primary school age in the County of Surrey. It was set up in 1976 in the Weybridge area, hence the name, but it rapidly spread throughout Surrey. It aims to promote chess for children from state and private schools in Surrey (and some neighbouring London Boroughs that now cover areas of historic Surrey that have no primary chess organisations themselves).

Its main aim is to provide chess playing and training opportunities to all children as we are aware of the general educational and social benefits that this provides. For the more committed we offer the opportunity of being selected to play at national level in the English Primary Schools Chess Association's National Team Championships.

In order to meet these aims and objectives we run 4 tournaments in all areas of Surrey. In January we select a squad of 20 under 9 boys and girls, 30 under 11 boys and girls and 20 under 11 girls from whom we will choose teams to represent Wey Valley Chess - Surrey in the EPSCA competitions.

At our tournaments we offer very popular training between rounds, delivered by highly rated trainers for the stronger players, and by older successful juniors for the beginners.
